Servant's Banquet

The Bible teaches us in Matthew 23:11-12, "But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted." We also read in Luke 22:27 where Jesus said, "For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth."

Last Saturday evening, our church held its annual Servant's Banquet. This banquet is to honor those in our church that serve all year long without receiving any type of monetary compensation. This would include our staff (deacons, Sunday School teachers, Ukrainian pastors and their wives, pianist, librarian, etc.) and anyone else who stands out as an example of service.

BANQUET HELD IN A LOCAL RESTAURANT, "SOFRAM"

Bro. C.W. Fisk was visiting with us from Elgin, Illinois, as well as Bro. Don Ossewaarde (missionary to Oriol, Russia) and Daniel Irvin (missionary to L'vov, Ukraine) and his son Jacob.

We were served a fine dinner of Greek salad, chicken fried chicken, potatoes with dill, rolls, and baklava. After our dinner, Bro. Fisk brought a message about service. Then, two awards were given - one for the most outstanding servant in the deaf church and the other for the most outstanding servant in the hearing church. My camera battery ran out just before awards time, so unfortunately I do not have pictures of the recipients receiving their awards.

The evening was nice, and a splendid reminder to continue serving the Lord and looking forward to HIS rewards. Bro. Roland and Mrs. Vera Mitchum were in charge of preparing for this banquet, and they did an outstanding job. Thumbs up, you two!

Our goal is to one day hear those wonderful words, "Well done, thou good and faithful SERVANT." (emphasis mine)
