Baby orphanage "Yolochka" - bedding

The first part of our "orphanage tour" will take us to the bedding areas. I must say that I was pleased to see the uniformity of the beds... that it was not just a hodge-podge of donated items. The one thing I am just now noticing, though, is - where are the pillows?

You will notice the masks on nurses' faces throughout our "online tour" the next few days. Since the swine flu, the masks have become a pretty normal addition here in Ukraine, not only in hospitals and clinics, but as well as in stores and restaurants.

So, did you notice the numbers on the beds? As a disclaimer, I am reminding myself that my home church nursery in America numbers everything when you drop your child off... sticker on the baby's back (so he won't peel it off) and corresponding number stickers on bottles, diaper bags, etc... However, can you imagine being a number every day of your life?! Of course, these children DO have names, but those will most likely change if they are adopted.

Aren't you glad our Heavenly Father knows our names and even how many hairs we have on our heads? And, He knows all about these sweet orphans too!
But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Matthew 10:30
Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows. Luke 12:6-7

  1. Hello. It's nice to see this because I'm adopting a little girl from there. I tried to send an e-mail but you may not have seen it yet. Thank you for posting about the orphanage.

  2. Jolene,

I am so thrilled to hear that you have been able to get access to the baby house. I am even more excited that the director allowed you to take so many pictures. I think God must really be working on his heart from what I have heard in the past.

Of course you know I have to ask - did you see Anna? I'm not sure if I even want to know, but she is still in my heart and prayers every day.

Looking forward to reading the rest of the upcoming posts!

  6. I do not know anything about specific children yet. I will have to wait until I can establish more of a relationship there before I can get specifics.

  7. Very pretty photo header on your blog.

Yes, indeed! Where are the pillows? I hope you continue to build a good relationship with the director of the orphanage. I've been praying for him!

  8. I have to ask...as I sit here making a blanket for an orphanage...what is wrong with donated blankets? I've tried to figure this one out so I wouldn't have to ask...Thanks! Ann
PS: Really enjoying the pictures! Thanks so much for sharing them!

  9. Ann,

I am so sorry I was not clear on that... I think you may have misunderstood me...

I think homemade blankets are just absolutely wonderful! I was referring to the uniformity of the (wooden) beds themselves. Keep sewing away on those blankies... the kiddos need something special like that made just for them!

thank you for the site...it's beautiful as your work is. My husband and I have just brought our little girl from here with us. We are in Simferopol as I write, heading to Kiev to the US Embassy - our last leg of the trip. I wish I had come across your blog sooner, but not speaking the native language made it very difficult for us to find the name of her orphanage...keep up the fantastic work...Michele & Joe
